Cub_ism_ Artspace presents Keru Chen's first solo exhibition—not as a display of final results, but as an invitation to step into an experimental site that is "rolling and generating" in real-time. The gallery has been transformed into a complex set of experimental vessels where the boundaries between mediums are dissolved. Painting, installation, and sound either collide or, like a rolling snowball, grow into an unstoppable, living organism. Here, there is no "Creator"; the artist acts only as a trigger, an observer, and a participant, allowing each medium the space to run free. This conscious loss of control ensures the works are no longer closed conclusions, but exist in a state of eternal, self-initiated growth.
Keru’s installations are composed of "linguistic fragments"—objects "found" in the physical world. Once these items lose their original functional attributes, they return to their essence as "objects." The artist’s role is to perceive, identify, and reassemble. Within these unrelated fragments, she discovers a latent connection, a sense that they "belong together." It is akin to creating a new language, an attempt to touch the hidden order beneath the chaos.
The birth of her paintings begins long before the brush touches the canvas; a quality tentatively called "Qi" is already circulating. This is an exercise in the precision of perception, where the image advances through a cycle of "observing, feeling, capturing, selecting, reflecting, and waiting." The "Black" that consistently appears in her work is the condensation of its vitality—the "spring" that propels the practice forward.
The so-called "Humming"represents the vibrations emitted by everything gathered in these experimental vessels as they teeter on the edge of losing control. "Meaning" is no longer pre-packaged and handed to you by the artist. Instead, when you find yourself staring at a corner and feel a sudden "jolt" in your heart, that unknown meaning has been captured and claimed by you. Feel free to wander, and listen to what these "vessels" are muttering.
